Had two good races yesterday, the first in a F.2 wind when the Altos with their big sails got away leaving us to fight it out with the Vortices/Vortexes, call them what you will. We beat three of them on the water and finished hot on the heels of the fourth.
The wind was up to the top end of a F.3 in the afternoon, increased further by a tide flowing against the wind giving rise to a confused chop on the Medway. At the end of a few mile's beat, we were well up, a fair bit behind one RS800, but ahead of two others (full of excuses afterwards), a Laser 5000 and the Vortices, and hot on the heels of the Altos. Then we fell right back on a run - for the second week running we had a rudder-full of weed. After clearing that we set off in pursuit and with about two miles to go saw the Altos well in the distance ahead of us. I'm not sure if we or they were more surprised when we simply planed past them on a trapeze-kite reach to win the race on handicap.
Most importantly, although it felt chilly on land even in the sun, once racing we were warm enough not to be bothered by the cold. It looks as though Spring is finally here!
