Does anyone else think that this new number is extremely generous?

Logically, the V3000 should now rate 1033, since according to my best calculations, each kilogram of weight removed from an L3k is worth about one PY point, and the V3k saves 25 kg over the L3k - at least according to manufacturers' figures. That said, I reckon 1007 is about right for the V3k: it is the same as the latest Buzz number, now that Buzzes have 10% more sail area than before, and indeed while we may thrash Buzzes in planing winds, they are a real pain in the light stuff.

Here is the link for the RYA PY list:

www.rya.org.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/t...%20Final21.2.14.xlsx

The V3k Class Association recommended PN remains at 1007, although losing 25kg from the hull certainly doesn't equate to a difference of 51 points except under the most favourable circumatances, such as when the V3k can just plane and the L3k cannot.

WE sailed a Laser 3000 and V 3000 in teh GNAC this weekend and the Laser 3000 clearly won on handicap in a variety of medium winds.

On 1058 a Laser 3000 will beat just about ANYTHING in a decent wind!

Still sailing Lapse Of Reason off 1007 at CSC and beating some surprisingly fast boats on the water, but not beating much on handicap. Good job CSC haven't read Tony's recommended PY for single handed V3000s!!!!
