Nantwich & Border Counties Sailing Club

Laser Open Meeting 31st August 2008

With 11 visitors joining 9 local sailors there was a good turn out for the Nantwich & Border Counties SC Northern and Midland Grand Prix on 31st August. Unfortunately they were greeted with flat calm and occasional rain showers. With no indication of any wind the first race was postponed for an hour by Race Officer Max Bennett. With little improvement in conditions lunch was taken early and eventually at about 1:00 o’clock the sailors took to the water for the 1st Race in light and variable winds.

Neil Skellen (Leigh & Lowton) and Andrew Brown (Budworth) made the most of the start and the conditions to get clear of the fleet on the first lap and were never caught. David Carpenter (Elton), Stewart Brown (Budworth) and Robert Holmes (Elton) were battling in the chasing pack and eventually finished in that order.

With only a short break the 2nd Race got under way in possibly even less wind. This time it was Holmes leading Skelton at the front and opening up a gap from the rest of the fleet lead by Andrew Brown. However Holmes led Skellen around the wrong course early on the 2nd lap and both had to correct allowing the Brown brothers through. In the dying wind Andrew Brown took the bullet followed by his brother Stewart, who in turn was followed by Holmes, Skellen and Greg Marshall (West Lancs).

As there was no indication of any improvement in the conditions, the 3rd Race was cancelled. So with 2 races sailed and both to count, the Final Results were;
