Laser Northern Grand Prix at West Riding Sailing Club

23 boats competed in the first event of the 2008 Laser Northern Grand Prix circuit held at West Riding Sailing Club on Sunday 30th March.

The first of the three races got off in blustery Force 4 conditions, under clear blue skies. Owyn Wallace rounded the windward mark first closely followed by Hamish Gledhill. Gledhill passed Wallace on the off wind legs to take a comfortable win. Dave Poore pulled away from the pack to pass Wallace to take second, with Wallace third, Tim Keighley fourth and Alasdair McQuire fifth.

The second race got away with moderating winds. Mike Budd broke away early to take a comfortable win, with Poore finishing second and Gledhill third. Wallace made a last minute charge to take 4th passing Stuart Belfield (5th) and McQuire (6th)

The wind continued to drop for the last race, with Budd, Gledhill and Poore all in contention for honours. Poore made the most of the conditions pulling out an unassailable lead, leaving Gledhill and Budd to battle it out for the places. Adrian Sandilands joined the battle, eventually taking second place ahead of Budd (3rd) and Gledhill (4th). Belfield again took 5th place with Keighley 6th.
