Laser Northern Grand Prix at Penine Sailing Club

4th May

Jonesy is back but he did not have it all his own way. A brisk and gusty wind greeted the competitors at Pennine Sailing Club and the heavens opened as race one began. Hamish Gledhill excelled in the windier condition and lived up to his early season promise by winning convincingly from Ian Jones with Pennine sailor Richard Benson following closely in 3rd.

The wind fell away for race two and became shifty which proved more to Ian’s liking and he took line honours from Adrian Sandilands also of Dovestone, with Hamish in third. After a course change race three got underway, again the wind shifted and there were limited opportunities to gain places. Ian Jones’ early dominance of the race proved crucial and he his lead to the end of the race, finishing ahead of Adrian Sandilands and Wendy Jones (nee Wendy Shingler) who was very quick in the light conditions. Hamish’s win in race one was enough to give him 2nd overall from event winner Ian Jones with Adrian Sandilands 3rd overall.
