Ogston Laser Open June 1st

Please find below a report from Ogston last weekend from Don Spencer. This year I did the scoring and we chose the first 8 boats from each region. Given that we only had 12 boats and one of those was a Radial I deemed this to be fair. To be honest even if we had counted 11 boats the result would have remained unaltered.

Any way Jonesy won and despite a poor last race from the North whereby Tim Lowe (9th) and Myself (5th) dropped out of the top four places Aidy (6th) Wendy(8h) Ali Mcormack (10th) and the rest of the team did enough to salvage the day. So despite a 2,3,4 from the Midlands the strength in depth of the North won through with the likes of the Tickle’s, Tom Goddard and Richard Whiteleock all scoring top 60% of the fleet positions from the 30 entries. Thirty helms didn't look through their window on Sunday and crawl back into bed. The day dawned grey and rainy but eventually cleared with a force 2.5 wind to enable three races to be completed with ease. Ian Jones was the winner but didn't have it all his own way having to be content with one win. He was beaten by Paul Williamson and Andrew Wilde who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.First lady was Ian's new wife Wendy Jones, first master was Paul Williamson ,first junior was son Craig and first Radial was Tom Whitehead. The little matter of North V Midlands was finely balanced at 3-3 but was won by the North by a mere 5points. I allowed Ian lees to manipulate the figures this time!
