Laser Northern Grand Prix at
Budworth
The forecast was high pressure centred over Budworth and no wind but lots of people turned up anyway, waiting for a magic wand to provide the goods. By 12.00 the zephyrs dancing over the Mere joined together and by the time everyone was on the water there was a pleasant but shifty breeze which stayed all afternoon.
Three races were sailed on a simple sausage course and in Race 1 Budworth’s Tony Taylor quickly showed a clean pair of heels to win with Tom Keegan (L&L) 2nd and Dave Nicholson 3rd.
Race 2 and HB joined in but didn’t take the finish gate allowing Ally Cormack (Budworth) to take the honours with Rob Holmes 2nd (Glasson) and Tom Keegan 3rd.
In the final race the breeze picked up and some of the lighter helms had to work hard. with standard rig sails. Rob Holmes was looking good but hit a mark which proved costly and he couldn’t improve beyond 2nd place to finish behind Tom Keegan. Ally Cormack was 3rd.
Overall Results:
1st Tom Keegan (L&L)
2nd Rob Holmes (Glasson)
3rd Ally Cormack (Budworth)
