Major problems with our car prevented us travelling to both Bassenthwaite and Carsington this spring, however we finally made a 3000 event at Langstone Harbour this weekend.
It was disappointing to find no other 3000s, nevertheless we had some enjoyable and competitive sailing in the mixed fleet at this very friendly event.
Sunshine and light winds on Saturday were pleasant and provided conditions mostly adequate for trapezing. Sunday however started with light and shifty winds, giving the race officer a challenging job with several postponements holding up the competition. When the medium handicap fleet finally started their eagerness resulted in a general recall, delaying the proceedings even further. The wind then blew up into a good F3 and persisted for the 2 races providing some lively sailing.
Our results weren't great; despite being very pleased with a first and third round the windward, we have yet to find the ability to capitalise on these positions and hold our place on the downwind.
We were unable to stay for the Monday race but had a great couple of days with sunshine and wind - and it was good to drive away with the old boat intact!
Looking forward to Grafham in a couple of weeks time ....
Kathy & Chris
